Germany’s largest footwear manufacturer and Austria’s largest producer of upholstered furniture set their sights on retailers in Europe, Asia, and the United States with their jointly developed beds, slatted frames, and mattresses.

BIRKENSTOCK will be adding sleep systems to its product portfolio in 2017. At IMM Cologne, the traditional family business will be unveiling premium-quality beds, slatted frames, and mattresses. These products are the result of a partnership with bed and mattress manufacturer ADA. The products were jointly developed¬ before being manufactured at the headquarters of Austria’s largest upholstered furniture manufacturer in the town of Anger in eastern¬ Styria. All BIRKENSTOCK sleep systems combine the functional excellence of the traditional global brand (“Tradition since 1774”) with a design style that is as striking as it is brand-compatible, not to mention contemporary and ¬sophisticated. The products can be glimpsed for the first time at the leading international furniture and interior design fair held from January 16 to January 21, 2017, in Cologne (hall 10.2, aisle L, stand 21).

A healthy gait and a healthy stance will soon be complemented by a healthy position when lying down and sleeping. Beds are a logical next step from footbeds. Just like our feet, the spine is part of our musculoskeletal system. It therefore makes perfect sense for BIRKENSTOCK, the inventor of the footbed, to add feel-good sleep systems to its product portfolio. In terms of product development, the key idea and point of reference was the anatomically shaped footbed. In the same way that the company’s sandals and closed-toe shoes deliver unbeatable comfort, BIRKENSTOCK sleep systems offer outstanding comfort when lying down and sleeping, laying the foundation for restful and healthy sleep and well-being, both during the day and at night.

The products were developed in close collaboration with partner company ADA, a family business of a similar size and with a similar philosophy to BIRKENSTOCK. Precision, care, and attention to detail are the key ingredients that ensure stylish and functionally sophisticated pieces of furniture that have been crafted to perfection using high-quality materials. With approximately 3,000 staff, ADA is not only the largest Austrian upholstered furniture manufacturer, but also one of the leading producers of upholstered furniture¬, beds and mattresses anywhere in Europe. This traditional company, whose roots can be traced back to a rope-making business founded in 1900, has sites in Austria, Hungary, and Romania.

Just like at BIRKENSTOCK, almost all the work at ADA is carried out within the company, from its own sawmill and in-house manufacturing through to packaging and shipping. The BIRKENSTOCK sleep systems are ¬produced¬ at the company’s headquarters in the town of Anger in eastern Styria. The products will be marketed through retailers in Europe, Asia, and the US, with the first products to be delivered to retailers at the end of the second quarter of 2017.
