BIRKENSTOCK and sacai’s first collaboration explores sacai Creative Director Chitose Abe’s signature concept of hybridization, reinterpreting BIRKENSTOCK’s most recognizable silhouettes through the blending and reconstruction of familiar design codes. By layering and exchanging elements across archival styles, the collection transforms classic footwear into elevated new forms with a refined conceptual edge.
At the center of the project are three key BIRKENSTOCK models, resulting in two new silhouettes. The first merges BIRKENSTOCK’s first-ever sandal, the one-strap Madrid from 1963, featured here with the Big Buckle, with its successor, the Arizona sandal launched in 1973 and defined by the brand’s original square buckles. Named Aoyama 107, after sacai's iconic store in Tokyo's sophisticated Aoyama district. The second style, named Cassette 75, combines the Arizona sandal with the Boston clog, first introduced in 1976 and celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. The style pays homage to sacai’s Paris headquarters, located on Rue Cassette in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Crafted using BIRKENSTOCK’s premium natural and suede leathers and centered around the brand’s legendary cork-latex footbed wrapped in leather, the collection remains rooted in the unmistakable familiarity of a classic BIRKENSTOCK silhouette. Rendered in a palette of taupe and black that feels distinctly BIRKENSTOCK yet unmistakably sacai, the styles introduce a refined new perspective while functionality and authenticity remain central to the design language of both brands.
Extending the footwear offering is a distinctive BIRKENSTOCK x sacai utility bag, available in two sizes and crafted using the same premium natural and suede leathers featured throughout the footwear collection. The interior base is lined with the same suede used on the sandals, while the exterior bottom features BIRKENSTOCK’s recognizable bone-pattern outsole. Finished with an adjustable strap and the brand’s iconic square buckle, the accessory references BIRKENSTOCK’s orthopedic roots and functional heritage centered around adjustability and fit. Matching the footwear offering, the utility bag is available in taupe and black.
Bringing together two distinct yet deeply complementary worlds, the collaboration reflects a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, innovation, and purposeful design. Through Chitose Abe’s distinctive creative approach, familiar archetypes are transformed into something entirely new, uniting the creative language of sacai with the enduring heritage of BIRKENSTOCK and its commitment to function, quality, and tradition rooted in a legacy that began in 1774.
The collaboration will be unveiled on June 28th, 2026 during sacai Men’s Spring & Summer 2027 Collection in Paris before launching globally in spring 2027.
