A NEW DESTINATION EMBODYING BIRKENSTOCK’S PURPOSE-LED PHILOSOPHY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP IS COMING TO SHIBUYA, A DISTRICT WHERE DIVERSE CULTURES AND PERSPECTIVES CONVERGE. AS THE SIXTH CONCEPT STORE IN JAPAN, FOLLOWING THE OPENINGS IN SHINSAIBASHI AND KYOTO EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE NEW STORE FURTHER STRENGTHENS THE FOOTBED BRAND’S PRESENCE IN THE MARKET WHILE OFFERING AN IMMERSIVE EXPRESSION OF THE BIRKENSTOCK UNIVERSE.
On July 1, 2026, BIRKENSTOCK will open its Shibuya Concept Store.
A district long defined by the convergence of diverse perspectives and the continuous emergence of new culture, Shibuya has always embraced evolving trends and the flow of people. This spirit resonates with BIRKENSTOCK’s purpose of bringing the footbed to people around the world. The new concept store marks the brand’s 13th directly operated retail location in Japan and represents another milestone in strengthening BIRKENSTOCK’s presence in the market. Following the openings of Ikebukuro, Shinsaibashi, and Kyoto earlier this year, the Shibuya Concept Store serves as a new destination for connecting customers with the brand’s values and products.
Rooted in BIRKENSTOCK’s commitment to Walking as Nature Intended, the interior concept is inspired by the theme of “Flow”—reflecting both the waterways that once ran through Shibuya and the continuous movement of people that defines the district today. Throughout the space, natural materials and organic forms shape the environment, including benches and display fixtures crafted from cross-sections of tree trunks, alongside walls finished with virgin cork. Wavelike cork shelving inspired by the arches of the iconic BIRKENSTOCK cork-latex footbed is paired with stainless-steel mesh featuring the brand’s signature bone pattern and leather stools, creating an environment that celebrates the authenticity and tactile qualities of each material while expressing key elements of the brand’s identity. Within the dedicated Care Essentials area, green tiles evoke the presence of water, while softly flowing forms introduce a calming atmosphere that complements moments of self-care and wellbeing.
The result is a space where the rich character of natural materials and the rhythm of movement come together, offering a moment of pause amid the energy of the city. Through the Original Footbed, visitors can discover BIRKENSTOCK’s philosophy of Walking as Nature Intended. The store offers a diverse selection of products, including sandals, clogs, and shoes, alongside the latest collections, the premium 1774 line, Care Essentials made with naturally derived ingredients, and a range of shoe care products.
