Traditional German manufacturer BIRKENSTOCK has underscored its high claim to quality and sustainability by obtaining Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification for its legwear. By doing so, the product range of high-quality socks predominantly consists of certified organic cotton. At the same time, the entire textile supply chain has been audited in this regard on the basis of environmental, social and technical factors – from fiber production through to retail.
The Global Organic Textile Standard is recognized as the leading global standard for the processing of and the trading with textiles from organically cultivated natural fibers. It establishes demanding environmental requirements along the entire textile production chain while also outlining a set of mandatory social criteria. Quality assurance is upheld by means of independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. The Global Organic Textile Standard International Working Group is responsible for awarding the GOTS label and comprises the member organizations OTA (United States), IVN (Germany), the Soil Association (United Kingdom) and JOCA (Japan). These four organizations contribute their expertise in organic farming and eco-friendly, socially responsible textile processing to the GOTS and work closely with other international stakeholder organizations and experts.
BIRKENSTOCK Legwear offers its premium products in both classic and modern colors. All Basic models, and some of the Fashion models, are characterized by the inclusion of unique BIRKENSTOCK FOOTBED COMFORT SOLE technology.
