TZ (GER): Hermann Gerland - Legend in BIRKENSTOCK

The BIRKENSTORIES team made a brilliant film about legendary football manager Hermann Gerland. In the portrait about the dyed-in-the-wool footballer, filmed at the original scenes of his long and successful career, some friends from back in the day also throw in some anecdotes. And of course Hermann Gerland also talks about his lifelong love for BIRKENSTOCK sandals. The newspaper Münchner TZ published an article on the video.

TZ (GER): Hermann Gerland, legendary FC Bayern football manager, is praised for the ultimate fashion faux pas – or is this something you would wear?

Legendary football manager Hermann Gerland is one of the most colorful characters of German football. The born-and-bred Bochumer was a member of the coaching staff of the record-holding German Bundesliga champion FC Bayern Munich for almost 20 years and discovered world stars like Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller and many more.

In the dazzling and glamorous world of professional football, he always remained true to himself and, thanks to his authentic manner, was able to especially get through to the young players which he successfully molded into some of the best footballers in the world.

In the BIRKENSTORY portrait, some of his friends from back in the day talk about the “Tiger” and Gerland himself talks about his life, some milestones and his very peculiar style: Gerland, who wears BIRKENSTOCKS whenever he can, about his love for the sandals: “If you have nice-looking feet, you can wear ugly shoes...”

The Münchner TZ newspaper wrote an article on Gerland and the portrait. You can find the video here
