The renowned printer and publisher Gerhard Steidl, known worldwide for the best photo and art books, reflects in this interview on the collaboration with Birkenstock. The Book of Birkenstock is a unique and exciting object, detailing the 250-year history of Birkenstock in more than 1,000 pictures on almost 700 pages. It comes with four other books in a so-called book multiple. Steidl’s idea was to transform this rich heritage into the present while giving a holistic perspective on the global brand that is Birkenstock today. Birkenstock and Steidl have a lot in common: both know what it means to create something with their hands.
