BIRKENSTOCK is expanding its product portfolio and presents for the first time slatted frames, mattresses and beds at the International Interiors Show in Cologne. The sleep systems and beds combine an emphasis on health with innovative functionality and distinctive design language. Taking inspiration from the original BIRKENSTOCK footbed, these new products bring to the world of sleep the level of comfort “to the tips of your toes” that the company is famous for. The BIRKENSTOCK range of beds consists of four box spring beds and two insert variants. There are a variety of frames and mattresses that work together to support a particular adaption to the body contour and restful sleep. A specially designed and particularly shock absorbent BIRKENSTOCK natural latex support layer with granulated cork is characteristic of the entire range. Other natural materials used are, as in traditional shoemaking, high-quality natural leather and wool felt. The new BIRKENSTOCK sleep systems and beds will celebrate their world premiere at the imm cologne 2017 between January 16 and 22 in Cologne, Hall 10.2, Stand: L021.
Similarly to their famous and globally successful shoes and sandals, BIRKENSTOCK’s new sleep systems are distinctively focused on their health-promoting characteristics. Under their motto, “From footbed to bed,” comfort is moving into the bedroom. Just as the Birkenstock footbed fits the natural form of the foot, the form of these sleep systems is attuned to the entire body. Their exceptional support ensures healthy and restful sleep. The Birkenstock principles for walking and standing are now being applied to lying and sleeping comfort. The promise to customers remains unchanged: solid, quality craftsmanship, premium-grade materials and superior functionality. In developing these products, BIRKENSTOCK drew on scientific studies conducted by the experts at the Munich-based Ergonomie Institut München (EIM) and worked together with partners experienced in the production of beds and mattresses. The Austrian upholstered furniture manufacturer ADA, based in Styria, will produce the new premium sleep systems. ADA is a long-standing family business that shares with BIRKENSTOCK a dedication to quality and combining proven craftsmanship with the most up-to-date manufacturing technology.
When a company, out of passion for healthy footwear, studies the anatomy of the human foot as closely as BIRKENSTOCK does, you can be sure it will also build beds that promote the health of the entire musculoskeletal system. The undulating slatted frames and mattresses, for example, are something entirely new. There are several models with slats made of beechwood, as well as a frame with a disk grid that has cork elements specially designed for this purpose. Both models are available with optional height adjustment in the head and foot sections.
Because every user’s individual body type and sleep habits are so important, BIRKENSTOCK has placed special emphasis on the functional diversity of their mattresses. There are three different levels of firmness and three versions: natural latex, a specially developed cold foam with a significant concentration of a natural plant-based oil, and a micro-pocket spring mattress. The special BIRKENSTOCK support layer made from natural latex with granulated cork is included in all versions. In addition to the ergonomic features, BIRKENSTOCK’s design for their sleep systems and beds focuses on creating a sleep environment that responds to the comfort needs of its individual users. And of course they have paid special attention to the feet: an extra heel relief zone in the slatted frames and mattresses leave them feeling as relaxed at night as they do during the day in their comfortable BIRKENSTOCK footwear.
But comfort is not the only factor in BIRKENSTOCK sleep systems and beds; they have exacting standards of design too. Six hand-crafted beds with oiled wood elements will be shown at the international furnishings trade fair in Cologne. The design language of their bedframes and headboards invokes a number of classic and contemporary trends, so there’s something to fit any interior design style. Natural materials such as wool felt and saddle leather, in addition to cork and natural latex, draw a connection to sustainable shoe production, in which BIRKENSTOCK has a rich tradition.
