Fashion fades and only style remains, which is why Monocle has teamed up with iconic German footwear firm Birkenstock for a timely refresh of the brand’s beloved 1973 Arizona model.

The classic two-strap sandal – with the famously comfy footbed made of cork, latex, jute and leather – is still made in Neustadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, by skilled artisans. Every pair goes through a 17-step process, comprising more than 100 hand movements, to ensure that they are made to the highest standard. For this special collaboration, Monocle’s in-house design team and editor in chief Tyler Brûlé have added a few elegant touches to update the time-tested model for a well-heeled audience, including:

  • A rough-to-the touch, limited-edition olive-green buckle.
  • A distinctive Monocle logo on the heel.
  • A co-branded drawstring bag for handy haulage.

We’re proud to present this limited-edition creation between Birkenstock and Monocle. And it comes in a variety of sizes: from EU 36 to EU 45. The next step? Why not try them for yourself.Price: 180 EUR | 180 GBP | 230 USD Collection available as of December 2019 at www.1774.com and across all Monocle channels.

BIRKENSTOCK is a global lifestyle brand with a heritage in iconic footwear, rooted in the creation of the BIRKENSTOCK footbed that can be traced as far as 1774. By the early 1970s, BIRKENSTOCK had become a global player. Manufactured in Germany, the sandals are now sold in more than 100 countries on all continents. BIRKENSTOCK also has a growing range of closed shoes, children’s shoes, and occupational footwear, as well as specialist products for orthopedic retailers, socks, bags, and belts. In 2017, BIRKENSTOCK added sleep systems and natural cosmetics (BIRKENSTOCK NATURAL SKIN CARE) to its portfolio of products. The company is headquartered in Neustadt (Wied).
